This program is available to public and private schools and home school groups that have not-for-profit status in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming Counties and Wayland-Cohocton Central School. It funds artists to work with teachers integrating the arts into the core curriculum. They must work for at least five days (three days for first-time applicant) with a core group of students. The core group may be a grade level or subject area, but every student should have at least five meetings (three meetings for first-time applicant) with the artist in a small group.
Projects have explored the Erie Canal through regional music, Greek mythology and theatre through drama, anatomy through drawing and painting, creative writing through storytelling, and African culture through African drumming.
Successful applicants can receive up to $1,500 toward the cost of the residency. Fifty percent of the total cost of the residency project comes from the school in a combination of in-kind and cash contributions. The cash contribution must be equal to at least 10% of the total grant request.
