Grants for Young Artists
Grants for Young Artists is a program for high school juniors and seniors who are serious about developing their artistic talents. Any junior or senior who resides in Livingston County is eligible to apply for up to $500 to pursue a special extra-curricular opportunity in his or her artistic discipline. A panel of artists and art teachers selects the awardees. The Genesee Valley Council on the Arts awards grants twice a year for opportunities in creative writing, dance, music, theatre, or visual arts (including film, video and computer art).
Selection criteria are: a) artistic excellence of the student's work, b) artistic quality of the opportunity, c) student's preparation in the discipline, and d) good academic standing. There are no need based awards.
Since June 1998, GVCA has awarded grants to young artists from all over Livingston County. These grants have enabled them to take advantage of artistic opportunities at SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Fredonia, Eastman School of Music, Hochstein Music School, New York State Summer School of the Arts, Writers & Books, Visual Studies Workshop, Alfred University, the Art Institute of Pittsburgh, Syracuse University, RIT, Nazareth College, and the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.
