Health is Wealth

Health is wealth, if one is not healthy he or she would definitely suffer difficulties in her/his day to day life instead of enjoying the good life that God has bestowed upon us. Wealth is not just measured by our financial capabilities but rather it is by our overall health. Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health are the factors to be considered in our pursuit of a healthy living. If our overall health is good then nothing can deter us from doing what we love and in enjoying the luxuries of life. Health is the key to living a productive and satisfying life. A lot of factors play a role in staying healthy. So what must one do to avoid developing certain conditions that would deteriorate our physical health? One way of improving our physical health is to eat healthy, by making healthier food choices one can prevent or treat some conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. Eating real food grown on a plant rather than manufactured has tremendous benefits for our physical health because real food is medicine and junk food is toxic. Good and healthy food is not only the requirement in maintaining a physically healthy life, incorporating more spontaneous physical activity on a daily basis such as jogging, walking, swimming or going to the gym are better ways to manage daily stress which greatly affects our health too. Routine exercise can make us feel better and keep our weight under control. Carrying too much weight increases our risk for several health conditions such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, cancer, gallbladder disease, and arthritis. Remember, spending few minutes of exercise is better than none.

Having a healthy body and healthy mind and emotion is equally important because mental and emotional health plays a major role in our ability to maintain good overall health. Life experiences such as stress can destabilize our mental and emotional health, so we need to learn how to manage it. This will help us to stay calm and be able to function in a stressful situation. Also, we should pay attention to our moods and feelings, if we’re worried about something let us not be afraid to ask help if we need it, seeking help is a sign of strength-not a weakness. We need to develop too, a good balance between school, work and social life, we should not try to take on so much as this would lead to exhaustion. We should also learn to value ourselves, make time for our hobbies and treat ourselves with kindness and respect. Surround ourselves with good people that could make us smile, laugh and see the humor in life. As what the saying goes laughter is the best medicine, it can boost our immune system, ease the pain, relax our body and reduce stress.

We cannot be totally healthy if spiritual health is ignored. The spiritual faith of people helps in improving health by way of positive thinking, acquiring additional social support from the church ministry and improving coping skills through prayers and believing that everything happens for a reason.
