Mini-Galleries
In 1982 the Genesee Valley Council on the Arts inaugurated its Mini-Gallery program in an effort to encourage the visual arts in Livingston County by providing a showcase for area artists and by offering residents an opportunity to become aware of the talent surrounding them. Over a period of four months and on a rotating schedule, artists display their art in four local banks. This system provides four one-person shows for each artist. Artists are responsible for hanging their works in each of the four sites.
All artwork is to be suitably presented for exhibiting, but framing each piece is not necessary. Three-dimensional works must be able to fit on the Mini-Gallery panels, as there is no floor space available for stands. The bank sites include:
Community Bank
46 Main Street, Mount Morris
KeyBank
66 Main Street, Geneseo
M & T Bank
6 State Street, Nunda
Five Star Bank
23 State Street, Mount Morris
In 2005, the program was expanded to include month-long Capstone Exhibitions and artist receptions exclusively for Mini-Gallery artists.
Who is eligible to apply for an exhibition rotation? Any adult members of GVCA OR for non-members, adults who live or work in Livingston County. Art teachers may request a rotation to display student art. Livingston County senior high school students may participate under the direction of their high school art teacher. Only original works by artists are allowed. Participation in the exhibits is by invitation. Interested artists are encouraged to send photographs, slides or digital images of their work.
